Dimmie, the information in your comment has been very useful! I used that cover info site to solve a mystery that's been bugging me for a while: I have a couple of versions of the song "Up, Up and Away" -- one by the Fifth Dimension, and one by Nancy Sinatra. I was finally able to figure out who did the original before both of them. Thank you!!!

I can't believe you never listened to The Tremeloes before :o
Surely you must have heard "Silence is Golden" on an oldies station at least once. it was their biggest.
But honestly, I don't know much about The Tremeloes myself ;) I only know them from the Dutch and British radio and I have them on some oldies compilations.

Their hits in the Netherlands (in a alfabetic order as I have seem to lost my HitDossier, a Dutch book with chart rankings of singles since 1956, and had to get the info of a website):

(Call me) Number one #19 1969
Even the bad times are good #7 1967
Hello Buddy #36 1971
Helule helule #26 1968
Here comes my baby #16 1967
I like it that way #9 1972
Me and my life #33 1970
My little lady #3 1968
Once on a Sunday morning #27 1969
Right wheel, left hammer, sham #32 1971
Silence is golden #4 1967

And something cool to save time when searching for originals of covers:

http://www.coverinfo.de/index.php?page=lang

It's in German but easy to understand. It shows The Strangeloves as the original artist for "I want candy". And they're American :)
According to the almighty AMG the guys from that group also wrote The Angels' "My Boyfriend's Back" :D
