Every Little Thing That You Say or Do
MADONNA!!!
I caught the TRL premiere of her new music video for “Hung Up” at work today (one of the great fringe benefits of working in television - a TV is always on!) and was pretty blown away. Not only does “Hung Up” sample one of my favorite ABBA songs — “Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)” — Madonna has also managed to produce a dancy, electronic tune that’s not as robotic (or, some might say dull) as her singles from 2003’s American Life.
The lyrics are pretty inane, but with this single, she unapologetically blends disco, 80s pop, and contemporary electronic beats, creating a tune that is difficult to listen to and not feel the urge to do a full-body clap or shoulder rotation or pelvic thrust.
The video (watch it HERE) is a lot of fun, featuring a very sassy Madonna decked out in pink satin work-out gear — not dissimilar to Olivia Newton John’s in the “Physical” video — and chillaxing with young, hot video vixens — but somehow this video isn’t nearly as annoying as the video for “Music” (great tune, bizarre video).
Check out her revamped website to hear the tune (it should start playing when the main page opens). There is also info on the new album, Confessions on a Dance Floor, which will be released on November 15th. At least one track has already garnered a bit of controversy, however, reviews in general are hailing Confessions as one of the year’s best pop albums.
Check out this well-written USA Today piece, which addresses the aforementioned controversy. Madonna is also asked about the Gwen Stefani parallels in her new album (many of which are not difficult to spot in the “Hung Up” video).
Madonna has proved once again that she can keep up with the new pop stars — and still retain her original style and sass. Madonna said a solid dance album was her goal in recording Confessions: “I want to dance!” (from this article). Go, sista, go.

I haven’t really thought any of Madonna’s songs were very catchy since “Ray of Light.” And while I try not to pay too much attention to the persona of an artist when deciding if I like their music, what I hear about Madonna is just so… odd and dissapointing. But I’d still bop around to her greatest hits any day!

Ray of Light WAS fantastic indeed (even if the video induced seizures)! Sandie, nothing will top our rendition of Like a Prayer dedicated to Slobber Bob circa 1998! Delta delta delta can I help ya help ya help ya?

Bob is a mystery…
He likes to bike alone…
We hear him call our name…
So we run back HOME!
Hahaha! Something like that.
